Beach Tags

Beach tags are mandatory for all beachgoers from 12 years of age to 64 years of age whenever lifeguards & badge checkers are on duty. Tags can be purchased for daily, weekly or seasonal needs and do offer a discounted pre-season price if purchased before June 1st. Protected Beaches

Lifeguards are on duty from 10am to 5pm. Lifeguard stands will be located approximately at South 2nd Street, Division, North 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 24th. The precise location of the guarded beach may change from year-to-year or even week-to-week depending on surf condition and most notably the location of sandbars. Beaches are guarded June 15th through September 2nd.

The surfing beaches during guarded hours are outside of the swimming area as directed by the lifeguards. Permitted surfing is subject to daily weather/ water conditions. Surfers must check in with a lifeguard & badge checker before entering the water.

The fishing beaches during guarded hours are located between North 23rd Street to North 25th Street.

Access To Boardwalks And Beaches

In Surf City, NJ, several beaches have wheelchair-accessible ramps to ensure accessibility for all visitors. Beach access mats are available on each beach entrance. The N. 12th Street beach is the designated point with improved access including a ramp and a beach mat. Surf City Beach offers convenient surf chair locations for visitors with mobility challenges. Beach Wheelchairs are available on a first come, first serve basis from 9am to 4pm daily. Residents and visitors can visit the badge booth to obtain a chair at no cost. Portable restroom facilities are available at the following locations, changing rooms and showers are not provided: Behind Borough Hall at 813 Long Beach Blvd, The 16th Street Bay Beach, The Division Street Boat Ramp.

Beach Vehicle Permits

For beachgoers planning to drive on the sandy shores of Surf City Beach, beach buggy permits are required. These permits can be obtained at the Surf City Police Department. Permits grant access to designated areas for off-road vehicles, ensuring a safe and regulated beach driving experience. It’s important to display the permit visibly on the vehicle and comply with all rules and regulations, including speed limits and designated driving zones, for a pleasant beach driving experience. Surf City Beach Buggy Permits are only valid in Surf City. Surf City boundaries are: South 3rd Street through North 25th Street. Beach access streets are 5th, 12th, and 18th.

In addition to surf chair locations and beach vehicle permits, Surf City Beach has specific rules and guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable beach environment for all visitors. Some of these rules include proper disposal of trash in designated bins to maintain cleanliness, respecting marked swimming areas and lifeguards’ instructions for water safety, and observing restrictions on pets and alcohol consumption to uphold a family-friendly atmosphere. Beachgoers are also encouraged to avoid fires, glass containers, and disruptive behavior to preserve the beach’s natural beauty and ensure a positive experience for everyone. Dogs may enjoy the beach while leashed with their owners from October 1st until April 30th.
